Gojju Avalakki/ Kuttu Avalakki is a very delicious poha (beaten rice) dish which can be prepared for breakfast as well, you can also serve this as prasadam during hindu festival days for your friends and relatives. A purely Karnataka dish which is a combination of spicy, sour and sweet (hulli, uppu, khara, sehi).
Ingredients:
Avalakki: 1 cup
Tamarind paste: 2 spoons
Sambhar powder: 2 spoons
Grated Jaggery: 1 spoon
Salt to taste
Oil: 6 spoons
Mustard seeds - 1 spoon
Jeera - 1 spoon
Urad dal - 1 spoon
Dry red chillies - 2
curry leaves - few
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 sppon
Asafoetida - a pinch
Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
Groundnuts - 1/4 cup

Procedure:
1. Grind avalakki/beaten rice coarsely. Wash and drain the water completely.
2. Soak tamarind in water for few minutes and prepare thick juice.
3. Take a vessel add tamarind juice, 1 - 2 cups of water, sambar powder, salt to taste, Asafoetida, Jaggery, grated coconut, mix well and lastly add the washed coarsely grinded avalakki. Keep it aside for 10- 15 mins.

4. Heat the Oil in a
pan, add Mustard seeds,
once it splutters, add urad dal, groundnuts, curry leaves, cut red chillies, soaked avalakki. Mix it well.
5. Simmer the flame and cook for 5- 10 mins.
Gojju Avalakki/ Kuttu Avalakki is ready to serve. You can serve Gojju Avalakki/ Kuttu Avalakki with Happala and Sandige, a very good combination.
